Balanced diet for baby

 

What is a balanced diet for baby? The requirements of a baby are different from those of an adult. Foods rich in carbohydrate are essential for energy. Protein intake must be in moderate because of risk of food allergies. Foods must be rich in fat, especially essential fatty acids to aid physical growth and development of brain. It is very important to give foods that are rich in vitamin-C and vitamin A. Vitamin C and Vitamin A keeps the immune system strong and fight infections. Vitamin A is essential for retina of eye and skin. It also enhances absorption of iron from vegetables, cereals and grains. Foods that are rich in vitamin C are papayas, mangoes, strawberries, oranges, capsicum, broccoli and tomatoes. Green vegetables supply a specific B-vitamin called folate which is essential for growth and repair of cells. Legumes like dhals, green peas, chick peas and kidney beans are important source of not only folate but also protein and certain types of complex carbohydrate. Full fat milk has to be used as much as possible. Milk is a good source of calcium and protein, essential for strong bones. Protein is essential for growth and repair of cells. Fiber is essential but in mild quantities as it makes the baby feel full and eat lesser quantity.
