Family pot feeding

As the baby is getting used to solid foods, try to feed the baby from family pot. Let's say you are making palak dhal today, first remove a portion of the cooked palak and dhal for the baby and then add spices for the remaining portion. The portion separated for the baby can be added in ragi porridge or mixed with rice. Common breast fast items like idli, kichidi, sooji upma and poha can be prepared without spices and given to the baby in suitable forms. When curries are made, cooked portions of the curries can be separated for the baby before adding spices. Large chunks of potato or carrot can be boiled with rice and later removed and mashed easily. Finger foods can be made with potato, carrot, beetroot, beans and bottle gourd.

While travelling, you can have a small electric rice cooker in which you can prepare kichidi in just 15 minutes. Just add few grains of rice and moong dhal with adequate water. After it is cooked, add few drops of ghee. Few pieces of beans, carrot and potato can be added along with grains. This makes an instant wholesome kichidi. It is safe to give fresh idlis in restaurants. Other foods are better avoided.
